Who is Zooey Deschanel? Zooey is a multi-talented American born actress, singer-songwriter, musician, and all around very adorable and a fashion inspiration to many vintage loving young women the world over.
In 1999, Deschanel made her film debut in Mumford, followed by her break out role as young protagonist William Miller’s troubled older sister Anita in Cameron Crowe’s 2000 semi autobiographical film Almost Famous. Deschanel soon became known for her deadpan supporting roles in films such as Elf and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. She then began playing lead roles in films, including Yes Man and 500 Days of Summer.
Since 2001, Deschanel has performed in the jazz cabaret act If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies with fellow actress Samantha Shelton. She plays keyboards, percussion, banjo and ukulele. She has sung in several of her films, and her debut album Volume One was released on March 18, 2008. The follow up album Volume Two is slated for release March 23, 2010. Deschanel has a mezzo-soprano vocal range.
She likes to be the cabbage after we have eaten meat for a month. Zooey is often compared to golden era Hollywood starlets and is also a talented singer. She has said in interviews that she believes her singing ability was pivotal in gaining the role of Jovie in Elf. She also sang in the Disney-produced musical, Once Upon a Mattress.
She loves old music, old movies, screwball comedies, vintage clothes and basically she is a old-fashioned gal. She doesn’t want to go to another rollercoaster ride of a movie. If she wants that, she’ll go to Magic Mountain. She is really interested in the young directors that are doing different things in cinema. She thinks the movies people will hold onto are the Rushmore and the Being John Malkovich. Those are the kind of films she want to do; that’s what she is passionate about. In a word, she likes to be the cabbage after we have eaten meat for a month.
